Meaningfool is an installation composed of columns formed by an archive of contemporary art books, alternated with artificial intelligence projections of real-time generative language. AI-generated texts appear on. semi-transparent projection meshes suspended between the columns of books, forming a layered spatial field in which language hovers between material reference and immaterial speculation.
The large language model generating the text operates through a retrieval-augmented generation process, drawing from a curated knowledge base while continuously producing new, contradictory atomic propositions about aesthetic concepts in real time.
These propositions resonate semantically within human thought yet cannot be resolved within reality as we know it.
The book archive embodies codified artistic knowledge anchored to reality, placed in tension with AI-generated meaning that operates independently of reality-based truth validation.
What initially appears as a confrontation between past and future becomes an inquiry into the evolving rules of linguistic and epistemic production.
Meaningfool recalls Ludwig Wittgenstein’s notion of language as a game, in which meaning is not fixed by truth conditions but emerges through use and context.
Here, contradiction is not treated as error or nonsense but as a
generative force that expands the boundaries of artistic language. Propositions are freed from the obligation to represent reality and instead begin to generate possible worlds.
In this sense, Meaningfool reflects on how meaning is formed in the AI era and questions the evolving role of the artist amid profound epistemic transformation, where the language of art becomes an open, self-modifying system.
Meaningfool was developed during an artist residency at the Viafarini Archive of Contemporary Art, where the artist worked in direct proximity to the archive of contemporary art books that form the conceptual and material foundation of the installation.
